After a bedtime story, a small boy asks his father ,
”Why does the lion always die at the end of the story?” The father replies
“It will always be that way until the lion begins to write the story.”(African
Proverb)
We are the lions and these are our stories...stories of
overcoming...stories of hope...stories of dreaming...stories of
success...stories that encourage... stories that prove that we can come
together as a part of the brotherhood of man.

It is always miraculous to see a dream take
shape and form. Dreams in themselves are made of the chiffon of men's hopes,
desires and aspirings. There may be no limit to their fabulous unfolding,
rich in all the magic of the fantastic. A dream may be held at the focal
point of one's mind and heart until it takes over the total process of one's
thinking and planning, until at last a man becomes the living embodiment of
what he dreams.
This is the first miracle: a man becomes his dream; then it is that the line
between what he does and is and his dream melts away. A new accent appears
in how he thinks, in the signature of his dream must guarantee the integrity
of his every act. In some ways he seems to be one possessed; and perhaps
this is true.
The second miracle appears when the outline of the dream begins to take
objective shape, when it begins to become concrete and to take its place
among the particular facts of life. This means that something more than the
man becomes the embodiment of the dream. Others begin to see the
manifestation and to feel the pull of its challenge. In turn, through sheer
contagion, they relate themselves to it and its demands.
If the embodiment takes the form of an institution, it means that at the
center of the institution, there is a living, pulsing core which guarantees
not only flexibility, but also a continuous unfolding in an increasing
dimension o creativity. Hence, men who have become embodiments of a dream,
project an institution which becomes the embodiment of the dream which they
themselves already embodied. It is of the very nature of such a dream that
it continues to grow, to develop, to find ever more creative dimensions.
Hence the dream is always receding; it can never be contained in a life,
however perfect. So it is with the institution which is its embodiment. It
must always maintain its dynamic character, and its greatest significance
must ever be found in the new heights to which it calls all who share its
contagion.

Special Interview
Interview with Ron Holt
(Father of Blair Holt)
Blair Holt
(June 1, 1990 - May 10, 2007)
Chicago high school student who was senselessly
murdered on a crowded metro bus when he acted to protect a friend from a
stray bullet. On May 10, 2007, a lone teenage gunman boarded a public metro
bus full of students returning home from school and began shooting
indiscriminately into the crowd.
In a selfless act which epitomized the word hero, Blair Holt sacrificed his
own life when he used his body to shield a young female friend from one of
the gunman's bullets. In this fleeting moment, without time to think, Blair
instinctively acted in a way that would make any soldier fighting abroad to
protect their friends and fellow comrades proud.
Unfortunately, while Blair's act was rare and exceptional, the scene of
young people being gunned down in their own schools, homes and neighborhoods
is one that is replayed over and over again on a daily basis in many
American cities.
