Jimmy Castor
The Everything Man
www.jimmycastor.com
Jimmy Castor…songwriter, singer, saxophonist, percussionist. Producer, arranger, humorist …alias The E-Man, has earned his well deserved reputation as “THE EVERYTHING MAN.”
Before even finishing junior high school, Jimmy Castor had written his first million seller for Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers called, “I Promise To Remember.” While furthering his education at New York City’s prestigious High School of Music & Art and later attending City College, Jimmy pursued his musical career by assembling a band of his own playing an assortment of major New York nightspots. He then wrote his second million seller, “Hey Leroy Your Mama’s Calling You,” on Mercury Records, through which a new flashy and spirited performer was introduced to the public – JIMMY CASTOR. Still early into his career, Castor befriended such music greats as Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, Tito Puente and King Curtis to name only a handful.
And to add to his credit, much of Jimmy Castor’s music (“It’s Just Begun,” “The Bertha Butt Boogie” and “King Kong,” to name a few) has been sampled innumerable times in movies and by a myriad of today’s most popular artists. His statement of “What we’re gonna do right here is go back,” is LEGENDARY

Avis Harrell
Entertainer/Producer
www.avisharrell.com
www.myspace.com/avisharrell
A truly unique vocalist, Avis has paid her dues in the music industry and is willing to pay more...it is completely unacceptable for the world not to know what a magnificent comet is passing through this Universe!
AVIS has done back up work, tours, and recordings with Ray Charles and Wayne Newton. She has been seen on KCET television in concert with Ray Charles and The Raelettes that was filmed a few years ago in Canada with "The Edmondson Symphony Orchestra" during her stint with him.
While keeping busy and being the opportunist she is, AVIS then joined Wayne Newton's organization when offered the job from Mr. Newton, where she was his lead singer for two and a half years. The high point of her stint with Wayne Newton was a soul stirring beautifully stylized rendition of "Endless Love" on Jerry Lewis' Telethon filmed at Caesars' Palace. Having performed in the background long enough, AVIS emerged to the forefront with the polish of any seasoned performer. With high-energy choreography and showmanship that pleases audiences of all ages, AVIS has a voice that's like a finely tuned instrument and delivers song after song in her own powerful way.
AVIS can now add another feather to her cap. Along with being the complete entertainer, she has written, played, programmed and produced her entire album/CD project, "SELF CONTAINED". She made it a point to cover as many genres of music as possible, while doing them all extremely well. The buzz has already started about this great CD and artist. For AVIS, "SELF CONTAINED" is a personal statement that there is no limit to the multiple talents God has blessed her with. This is a CD that you will want to play again and again.

Nikki Stone
Olympic Champion
Motivational Speaker
www.nikkistone.com
At the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, Nikki Stone became America's first-ever Olympic Champion in the sport of inverted aerial skiing. What made this performance so unbelievable, was the fact that less than two years earlier, a chronic injury prevented her from standing, much less walking or skiing down a slope at almost 40 miles per hour. Nikki came dangerously close to being sidelined from aerial skiing indefinitely.
Her tenacity and refusal to step down from a challenge brought Nikki Stone back to the top of the freestyle skiing podium. This top spot was far from foreign to Nikki, as throughout her career she earned 35 World Cup medals, eleven World Cup titles, four national titles, two yearlong Aerial World Cup titles, and a World Championship title. She also became the first pure aerialist ever (male or female) to become the yearlong Overall Freestyle World Cup Champion.
Nikki now travels around the world working as a sought-after inspirational speaker sharing her secrets to success. She encourages and inspires her audiences to find their Turtle Effect by realizing their passions, triumphing over obstacles and take life- enhancing risks, like she did, to reach extraordinary goals that may initially seem unattainable. Nikki takes her audiences through a roller coaster of emotions where they are in tears one moment, rolls of laughter the next, and ready to stand up and cheer the very next. Nikki applies universal principals common to all Olympic champions and successful businessmen and women. All her speeches are customized to incorporate any personal themes, messages and issues that companies are looking to communicate to their employees.
Nikki's contributions span far beyond her professional careers, as she devotes time to charities such as "Right To Play", "The Make-A-Wish Foundation" & "Cancer Research", hosts group skiing adventures, and participates in numerous sponsor promotions for major national and international companies. She has also remained very involved philanthropically by sitting on eight different Olympic, sport, and charitable committee .

Elder Wheeler Parker
Minister
Cousin of Emmett Till
A highly respected minister and community activist in Summit, IL, Elder
Wheeler Parker is a living witness to one of the most sensational cases
in the American Civil Rights movement.
In 1955 Parker, with his cousin, fourteen year old Emmett Till, traveled
from Chicago to Mississippi for a summer vacation to visit their
grandfather, Moses Wright. While in Mississippi, Emmett Till was
murdered after speaking to a white woman in a store, an event that
changed Wheeler Parker's life forever.
For Till, the trouble started at Bryant's meat market and grocery store
in Money, Miss. Back then, most of the customers at this store were
black workers from nearby cotton plantations. A white couple, Roy Bryant
and his 21-year-old wife, Carolyn, owned the store. She was behind the
counter the afternoon that Till , Parker and his cousins came in to buy
some candy. As he was leaving the store, Till whistled at Carolyn, and
she went to get a gun.
Till and his cousins raced home that day and hoped nothing would come of
what Emmett had done. However, on the fourth day, early Sunday morning,
Roy Bryant, Carolyn's husband, and J.W. Milam, Roy's half- brother,
knocked on the door of Wright's home. They found Till in one of the
bedrooms. As they were leaving, they threatened Wright that if he told
anyone they would kill him. Three days later, Till's body was discovered
in the Tallahatchie River. It was weighted down by a seventy-five pound
cotton gin fan that was tied around Till's neck with barbed wire. His
face was so mutilated that when Wright identified the body, he could
only do so based on the ring that Till had been wearing. Soon Till's
murder became an international story. |

Jermaine Smith
Playwright
www.myspace.com/spittinimageent
Jermaine Smith is an American playwright, director and producer. Born and raised in the rough streets of East New York, Brooklyn, Smith's childhood has shown him the raw view of drug addiction, death and a fractured family structure. Smith was born to a mother addicted to drugs and a father who died of Cancer when Smith was 4 years of age. He spent the first twenty- seven years of his life living in without God and in confusion...- It was the deep valley's and trials in his life since the age of eight that birthed the passion for writing, and a desire to share with the world his pain. In October of 2003, Smith's two year old nephew, who was diagnosed with Sickle -Cell Anemia at birth, experienced a normal fever and was wrongly determined as having a " Sickle-Cell attack" and doctors provided him with the wrong medicine, which put him in a coma that he never woke up from....It was through that experience that God opened his Mother's eyes to "be born-again" as she gave her life and her addiction to the Lord....
Smith decided that day that he would join suit and follow this God, that healed his mother and turned a tragedy into healing for his family. Smith has been saved and also growing in the Lord for the last six years and felt lead to share his healing and story of forgiveness and restoration with the world. His mother has been clean ever since she gave her life to the Lord.
To date his play " A Piece of Me" has lead Seventy-Nine souls to Christ! Smith and his mother are an every day work in progress, destroying the resentment and bitterness that once was. Not only do they converse, they together live in God's love and unfailing power to restore.

While a music student at the University of Connecticut, Mo's mastery of the electric bass excelled to exceptional heights, ultimately catching the attention of the legendary Ray Charles, who, during a live performance, hired him for his 1984-1986 international tour.

From 1989 through 1992, Mo has been both featured keyboardist and musical director with saxophonist Najee, pianist, Alex Bugnon, vocalists Philip Bailey, Patti Austin, Phil Perry, Miki Howard, Jon Lucien, and in 1993, became a member of Earth, Wind & Fire and the group's musical director in 1994. His movie soundtrack debut includes, the "Cruisin" single, featured in Spike Lee's "Get On The Bus" and "Talkin", co-written by Mo, featured in the Disney Movie, "Three Men And A Little Lady."
Mo's first offering as a solo artist is, Elements of Pleasure, which demonstrates his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist. The lyrical movement of the piano, the soulful sounds of the trumpet and flugelhorn and the funky rhythm of the bass are the elements that touch the heart, mind and soul. The music is a combined collaboration of instrumental funk and soulful vocals, reminiscent of his many musical influences. The CD features Philip Bailey on "Lover's Groove" and Michael McDonald, Oleta Adams and Peabo Bryson on "We Are One".

Dr. Fran Harris
America's InPowerment Coach
Motivational Speaker/WNBA Champion
www.franharris.com
Energetic. Authentic. Funny. Smart. Caring. Those are just some of the recent adjectives used to describe Dr. Fran Harris. Few understand how to inspire, teach and transform people in a way that honors where they are yet challenges them to move in the direction of their wildest dreams. A recent seminar attendee had this to say about Dr. Fran: "She's just real. Powerful but so real. I sat there wishing I could hang out with her -- that's the kind of effect Fran has on people. I watched her be completely present with every person she spoke with, and that's rare."
Fran knew at an early age that her calling was to touch the lives of millions of people through her spiritually- centered ministry that focuses on inpowerment, entrepreneurship and service. She's traveled to over 30 countries, played professional basketball in Italy and Switzerland, and has endured her own share of highlights and lowlights including being on NCAA (University of Texas at Austin) and WNBA Championship (Houston Comets) teams to losing her mother at age 16 -- experiences for which she is profoundly grateful. These experiences and others give Fran a powerful and unique perspective on human potential.

Terence Blanchard
Grammy Award Winner
Humanitarian
www.terenceblanchard.com
Grammy Award winner, Terence Blanchard is one of the most important musician/composer/band leaders of his generation. His emotionally moving and technically refined playing is considered by many jazz aficionados to recall earlier jazz trumpet styles. We will be discussing his latest project, A Tale of God's Will(a requiem for katrina).
Since 2003, Blanchard has released two critically acclaimed albums, Bounce and Flow, the latter of which was nominated for two Grammys in 2006. An important jumpstart for A Tale of God's Will was director Spike Lee's decision to document the aftermath of Katrina on film,in what turned out to be the four-hour HBO documentary,
When The Levees Broke, which aired last year. Lee, who has enlisted Blanchard on numerous occasions to score his films, such as Mo' Better Blues, MalcolmX, The 25th Hour and Inside Man, tapped him once again for his documentary.
Born March 13, 1962, in New Orleans, the young Blanchard was encouraged by his father, Joseph Oliver, to learn to play the piano. In the third grade he discovered jazz trumpet when a big band, featuring Alvin Alcorn on trumpet, played at a school assembly. In his teens Blanchard attended the New Orleans Center of Creative Arts, where he studied and played with saxophonist Donald Harrison. While performing with Lionel Hampton's bib band, he studied for two years at Rutgers University.
Harrison and Blanchard replaced Wynton and Branford Marsalis in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (1982) and the next years, as leaders, recorded New York Second Line. The recording won the French Grand prix du disque. The compositions and solo talents of Blanchard and Harrison on the disc New York Scene (1984) helped bring a Grammy to the Jazz Messengers. In 1984 the team formed their own quintet and made several recordings, including Discernment (1985) and Black Pearl (1988). Since 1991 Mr. Blanchard has made several recordings as bandleader, including The Heart Speaks (1996, Columbia/Sony).
In recognition of his exemplary work as a trumpeter, bandleader, and composer, Terence Blanchard received three top awards from Down Beat Magazine for the year 2000: "Jazz Artist of the Year," "Jazz Album of the Year" for Wandering Moon, and "Jazz Trumpeter of the Year."

My nine-and-a-half month pregnancy was complicated by a rare morning-sickness disease called Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which affects the mind and body. In addition to abnormally severe morning sickness, the disease caused me to suffer from crippling depression. I hope to provide hope for women who are suffering similarly.
Hopefully my book could be answers for someone’s daughter, sister, wife, cousin, niece or friend that may be having the same symptoms and not knowing what is going on with their body, “I want readers to read and feel my agony and to help any woman that may be experiencing this rare disease and stick by their side and support them through this sickness.”
I also hope to dispel myths about pregnancy, including the length of pregnancy and its simplicity. “The first misconception is that pregnancy is nine months. That is not true, you are given a 10-month due date and you can go into safe labor between nine and 10 months. The second misconception is that pregnancy is easy and simple. In my book you will learn that every woman doesn’t become pregnant, give birth and have the same healthy, happy life (they had) before the child.
The Good, The Bad, The Blessing provides a realistic depiction of pregnancy.

Keyan Williams
Musician
Entrepreneur
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Keyan Williams now makes his home in Phoenix, Arizona. Keyan started playing the sax at age 8 and by
the age of 16 he was playing Jazz Sax and Classical Flute. Keyan has never been shy to play for crowds. Many fans of his music have said that his style
reminds them of Grover Washington Jr., and he is very humbled by their compliments. Grover Washington Jr., musically influenced Keyan, along
with many other jazz artists like: Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery and Stanley Clarke.
Keyan recently released his new CD, “The Art of Living”. The CD is a groove filled production that is reminiscent of the kind of music Grover made.
Keyan says, “Grover Washington Jr. is one of my favorite musicians. He would give you a great show with three hours of non-stop playing. I wanted
to keep that kind of drive alive. It’s music with really strong grooves, to get back to what I call the original smooth jazz sound. I think I’ve done that
with this album”.
When it comes to live performances, Keyan plays from the heart and you’ll never hear him play a solo the same way twice. He has been gracing the
stage since his very early years, playing at various venues like Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. Keyan has had the honor of sharing the stage
with Herbie Hancock, Chic Corea, and Junior Cook. These experiences helped make him the performer he is today.
Keyan’s charity of choice is the Arizona chapter of the American Diabetes Association. This charity is close to Keyan’s heart given that he has lost his
Grandfather and more recently, a wonderful Aunt to this terrible disease.

Ronnie "Sport Coat" Overton
First and foremost, I'd like to take time to thank Our Heavenly Father for watching over me and giving me the strength to make it this far!! I was born in 1953 to Christine and Norman Overton in Pontiac, Michigan. I am the second oldest of eight surviving children. My musical career started at a very young age, like a lot of musicians, in grade school. I started out playing the violin until I took it home and broke a string! Scared to death of what my teacher was going to do to me, I almost cut my finger off trying to fix it! (shaking like Don Knotts!). After that I switched to the cello but that didn't last long, because around that time is when I really got serious about music! Strangely enough, my first real interest in music came from the Beatles!
Look here, let me tell you something, I couldn't wait for my parents to leave so I could crank up the radio, grab a broom (had to have a guitar) and something to tie on my head (had to have the hair)! At that time, I hooked up with some childhood friends and together we formed the Soulful Determinations. But I had to change that too, because everybody was drowning me out! So I kept up with the Joneses and switched to bass guitar.
I traveled from 1972 until 1978 with Ronnie McNeir (presently with the Four Tops) and Kim Weston. After a two year lay off, I went out on the road with the 50s doo- wop group, The Dell-Vikings. I traveled with them from 1980 to 1988, at which time in between tours I started selling drugs to make ends meet. Well, as you might have guessed, I got busted and had to go on an extended vacation for the state. Ten flat years!! I used that time to clear my head and tighten up my keyboard skills.
During the process of creating this project, I had the pleasure to work with and complete some other projects with some very talented musicians! Ronnie McNeir, David Finley (presently with the Miracles), Charles Anthony, Derek 'DJ' Johnson, Marcus Cummings, Darryl Wakefield, and Danny Carthan.
"When The Smoke Clears" is my first solo project and all the tunes written were based on my life experiences. If you're one of those many people who enjoy jumping in the car and just riding, this CD was designed with you in mind! It took me about five years to complete, but that's okay, because I wanted to make sure this CD wasn't one of those that you have paid $15.00 for, and only like one tune! This CD was created to make you pat your feet and just feel good! A few women friends have said that it contains baby- making music!
.....I'll leave that one alone! Enjoy!

Tonya's Philosophy
I believe self-renewal is the foundation of wellness, but this hasn't always
been my philosophy. I spent the majority of my young adult years with thighs
that rubbed together like sandpaper, a pantry filled with
sweet and salty snacks, and a closet of oversized blouses that masked an
unfit body - from me and from
others. Yet, every aspect of my life still centered around food and
inactivity. I wasn't "fully present" in my
life and didn't have a clue that I was in need of renewal.
My transformation began when I changed the way I thought about various areas
of my life. When I
renewed my thinking, I was able to see the value of forming a new mindset
about the foods I ate, the amount of exercise I gave my body, and the importance of taking time out for
me. By focusing on
my innate power of self-renewal, I was able to realize significant and
lasting change in my life.
As a self-renewal advocate, my mission is to help women understand what
self-renewal is and why it

Debra Shiveley Welch
Author Debra Shiveley Welch was born in Columbus, Ohio and has lived in the
Greater Columbus area all of her life. She now resides in Westerville with
her husband, Mark, and her adopted son, Christopher, also a published
author.
A third generation poet, Debra has been writing since age nine. In her early
twenties she had her own column in the Baltimore Eagle Gazette. Later, she
worked as editor for several newsletters, including as development editor
for Parent Talk for The League Against Child Abuse.
“The defining moment in my life is the day that I became a mother, and our
attorney placed my son in my arms. I drew him to me, breathed him in,
memorizing his unique scent, imprinting his essence into my very being. It
brought me full circle. I knew that this was a very special calling in my
life, to be with this soul, and to share my life with this child. To this
day, I revel in his unique perfume.”
Written while waiting to pick up her son from pre-school, A Very Special
Child was born. Debra wanted to tell the story in a spiritual way, and in
such a manner that would make a child proud to be adopted. She also felt
that it was important to reinforce the fact that he or she was loved from
the very beginning. These feelings, therefore, were her muse, and A Very
Special Child sprang from her heart, virtually complete with the first
writing.

Gilbert Young
Artist/Activist

Nijel Binns
Artist
Gilbert Youngreator of the famous painting (He Ain't Heavy), returns
front and center into the midst of a monumental debate. Simply put, one of the
most significant artistic undertakings in history, the creation of the
centerpiece for the Martin Luther King memorial in Washington, DC, is going to a
non African American artist. Mr. Young returns with key information that should
be of interest to all who have been following his quest to bring awareness to
this situation. He will update us on his ongoing efforts. orts.
"A CHINESE MARTIN LUTHER KING?"
By Gilbert Young
One of the greatest men in history said if a man is not willing to die for
something he is not fit to live. I believe that to be true. In today's society,
standing up for a belief- especially if it seems politically incorrect- can be
the same as dying. As a professional who just turned sixty-five, I know that to
be true. Still, I'm willing to yell at the top of my lungs my disgust at the
decision made by the King Memorial Foundation to choose a Chinese artist to
sculpt the image of Martin Luther King Jr., for the first ever national memorial
to an African American man. Where are those who are supposed to protect the
ideals and champion the cause? Among those pretending to be in charge are
obviously too many who can not see the travesty of justice in having the
"national treasure of China," Lei Yixin- that's Communist China-sculpt the
center piece of the most important African American monument, in recognition of
the most important African American movement in the history of the United
States. A movement that never could have taken place in China. I am appalled.
For the complete essay, go to:
www.kingisours.com
Recently featured in the January/February 07 issue of UPSCALE magazine, the
artist Nijel represents a new breed of figurative sculptors in the tradition
of great African American sculptors such as Augusta Savage, Richmond Barthe,
Elizabeth Catlett and Edmonia Lewis, and Ed Dwight.
Nijel is busy with new commissions for his sculpting company Nijart
International. He has recently completed a bronze statue of Dr. Kwame
Nkrumah, first President of Ghana which was commissioned by Dr. Julius
Garvey, son of the legendary Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Another commission
involves a bronze monument to Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically
elected President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Nijel will introduce an new factor into the controversial decision to
outsource the MKL monument.

Dr. Lee BrownFormer Clinton Former Clinton Administration Drug Czar, Former Mayor of Houston, TX, Mentor

Ashton and Ryan Clark
Entrepreneurs, Students
Dr. Lee Brown’s life in itself is an inspiration.
From that humble beginning, he rose to the pinnacle of American politics,
serving in the Cabinet of the President of the United States and Mayor of
Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in America.
In 1978, Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson selected him to serve
as Atlanta’s Commissioner of Public Safety. It was in that position that Dr.
Brown attracted the attention of the world as he calmly handled the
investigation of the Atlanta Child Murders.
After solving that case, he was selected by Houston Mayor
Kathy Whitmire to serve as Houston's Police Chief. Dr. Brown pioneered the
concept of community policing and transformed the Houston Police Department
into one of the most respected police agencies in the nation.
In 1990, his services were tapped by Mayor David Dinkins to
serve as Police Commissioner of New York City. There, he implemented the
concept of community policing citywide and after one year crime went down.
That was the start of New York City's most dramatic reduction in crime.
In 1993, President Bill Clinton tapped Dr. Brown to serve in
his Cabinet as the Director of the White House Office of National Drug
Control Policy, commonly called Drug Czar. Dr. Brown changed the nation's
drug control strategy by placing a greater emphasis on reducing the demand
for drugs.
In 1997, Dr. Brown was elected Mayor of Houston, Texas, and
reelected twice. As Mayor, he presided over what has been labeled the most
prosperous six- year period in the history of the City.
Currently, Dr. Brown is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
of Brown Group International, a full-service consulting firm headquartered
in Houston, Texas.
Ashton and Ryan Clark opened their first savings
accounts from their own earnings at the age of 8 when their winning smiles
and boyish good looks allowed them to be cast in ads for retailers including
Sears and Wards as young models. Their parents, Tony and Torri Clark, of
Flossmoor, IL, taught them early to save at least 20% of their earnings to
invest and to open a business. The boys learned these lessons quickly and
went on to explore their entrepreneurial talents by opening up a successful
lawn maintenance and snow removal service when they were just 11.
At the tender age of 13, while many of their peers were
focused on finding the money to purchase a new video game or CD, Ashton and
Ryan Clark were busy selling their first internet-based business;
Circuitbreakerz.com, an internet based consumer electronics business, on
eBay to get start-up capital to launch their second internet venture,
Hostivo.com, a website hosting business.
Ashton and Ryan were recently selected to participate in the
LEAD Summer Business Institute, a business enrichment program conducted by
10 of the nation’s top graduate business schools with corporate executives.
They analyzed case studies and business issues at the University of Illinois
in Champaign, IL and made corporate site visits throughout Illinois. The
curriculum included marketing, accounting, finance, economics, computer
science and ethics, and greatly enhanced their business knowledge and
skills.
They are graduates of Homewood Flossmoor High School in
Flossmoor, IL where they were peer mediators, student ambassadors, tutors,
student council members, and have been on the speech, mock trial, debate and
tennis teams. They have served as ambassadors to the United Nations with the
UN Youth Leadership Program and they both have won talent contests with
their piano playing abilities.
They are presently enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana
Champaign , as they continue to leave their unique footprint wherever they
venture.

Brenda D. Taylor
Author
Rev. Johnnie English
Minister
Brenda Taylor
has always been motivated to write. However,
the trials of life and the belief that her journey would help and inspire
others led her to pen the ultimate story, her own. Brenda’s motivation stems
from a life that saw her as an abused child, a young mother, domestic abuse
victim, and later a survivor. The author paints the picture in her
outstanding debut novel “Beauty For Ashes.” She guides the reader of the
autobiography through a fast paced series of experiences from growing up in
Chicago’s Cabrini Green Projects to being a young mother and wife, to her
ordeals of abuse that culminate in a very grisly murder attempt and her
survival from that experience. Woven in are a series of passionate poems
that reflect her inner strength toward situations sometimes beyond her
control. The reader will be pulled in by the no holds barred writing and
encouraged by the resiliency of faith.
Rev. Johnnie English
is an associate pastor at Shiloh Missionary Baptist
Church in Summit-Argo, IL. In
addition to his ministry, he is driven to personal and spiritual development
of all within his scope of
influence. The topic of his discussion will be "Overcoming the Giants". Each
and every day, we
are all faced with issues and problems that many would perceive as
insurmountable. These are the
giants in life. However, there are certain weapons that we have that are
readily available. Just as
David conquered Goliath, the giant in his life, we can do the same. Rev.

his audience methods of overcoming and moving higher.
