Blair Holt
Hero

The purpose of this show is to not let the memory of a true
hero and role model be relegated to simply a case of one Black teen killing
another. Blair Holt was an intelligent and driven young man.
There are also many others in the African American community, but sadly
enough, we do not hear their stories until a tragedy occurs. One of my
goals is to reverse the trend.
Below is an extract of Blair's story from cbs2chicago.com
-------------------------------------------
Blair Holt threw his body in front of a bullet to save a
friend.
On Thursday(May 5, 2007), Blair, a 16-year-old honors student, was killed when he pushed
Tiara Reed out of the way after a gunman opened fire on a CTA bus near 103rd
Street and Lowe Avenue. Four other people were wounded in the shooting.
Monday Tiara sat in a wheelchair, her wounded foot elevated, surrounded by
family and talked to reporters about that deadly day.
She remembers moving to the back of the bus to talk to Blair just before the
teenaged gunman started firing.
"Blair grabbed me and threw me," she said.
Blair's actions saved Tiara's life and ended his.
The Reeds know Blair's mother, Annette Holt, because all three work for the
Chicago Fire Department. They visited her over the weekend.
"As a mother, that hurt the most," Janet Reed said. "It's heartbreaking. He
saved mine and I love her dearly."
"I call her daily," Eddie Reed said. "I say thanks for the sacrifice her
family has made."
Tiara says she and Blair planned to go to the same college, Clark Atlanta
University. When she does, Blair will be in her heart.
"I know Blair wanted to go to Clark," Tiara said. "I'm going to represent
him."
